A Makeover with Annie Sloan

Recently I have been inspired to repaint furniture, especially after I heard about Annie Sloan paint a year ago. I used it to paint the top of our kitchen table, which now I want to change again, but I will share more on that later. Since then, I have painted a dresser and vanity that belonged to my mother in law. I love the way it turned out!!

The first time I used this paint, I used clear wax on top, but I wasn't too thrilled on how it looked so this time we painted two coats (Old Ochre), distressed it with sand paper and sealed it with Polyurethane. It's a little cheaper too;) Our bedroom is not complete, but it's getting there!

My next Annie Sloan makeover will be our dinning room table!

Until next time,

Things you should know about me if we are going to be friends...

I keep the cabinet doors wide open in the kitchen, that’s all of them at times
I can’t sleep with the closet door open
I sleep with a really loud fan
I have burps that are known to register 9.5 on the Richter Scale
I hate making the bed
My purse is always messy
I still have a baby tooth
I leave the socks for my husband to fold
I’m really picky about my PB&J sandwich. {Peanut butter on both pieces of bread and jelly on one}
Great find at a thrift store makes my day
I love post it notes
Oh and I'm really bad about talking on the phone! I would much rather go for a coffee date

Hope this didn't scare you away!! What is something I should know about you?

Thrifty Treasure

I'm sure you remember my obsession with Goodwill! My most recent was this side table for our living room. I got it for $12 which is much better than the one I found a few weeks ago for $35! I believe it was made for this corner.

Here are a few other thrifty finds you may have missed.

A Good Find

Don't you love a good find, especially at a garage sale?!  Well my husband wins the best good find award! He was out driving around the other day and stopped at a garage sale that was selling a gas grill for only $15! He even scored a full tank of propane! We have been shopping around for one for the back yard, but was wanting to wait until it got a little warmer out to purchase one and they are sort of on the expensive side. This came at the perfect time! :) Hope you all had a fabulous weekend and don't forget to stop at your neighborhood garage sales. It's that time of year!

Before he cleaned it up
It looks and works brand new!! :)

Life Through Instagram

I love instagram! I enjoy looking at people's pictures and my favorites are the inspiring ones; ones that share a story, a story of friendship, family, a weight loss journey, a DIY challenge or even just a simple quote or bible verse that helps brighten my day. Here are just a few pictures I have shared on instagram lately.

I just started this book and I love it! I can't believe it has taken me this long to read it :)

Be true To Yourself

Hello ladies,

I want to share something with you that has been heavy on my heart.

I came into this job completely being myself, because in the past I have been afraid to do just that. I died my hair red, which I absolutely love by the way, and I am not afraid to take out my morning devotional at my desk and read it before the day starts. I am friendly, I smile at everyone and I try and help anyone I can. Now, I am not saying I am a saint. There are days when I would rather be on the beach with a fruity drink with an umbrella or in my bed under the warm covers. Inside, I may not always have a good attitude, but I strive to show I do on the outside.
Now I have to be honest...none of this has been easy for me. I still shy away from a lot of people and I'm having a difficult time relating to some people at work. I don't know if it's because this is my first time out in the "real world", away from all of my college friends, or if I am just trying to find out who I am in this world of pressure and striving to live up to the expectations of today's world. Joyce Meyer says, "God wants us to fit into His plan, not to feel pressured trying to fit into everyone else's plan." I just continue to pray that I remain true to myself and accept my limitations without feeling the pressure of comparing or competing with others.

"Secure people who know God loves them and has a plan for them are not threatened by the abilities of others." Joyce Meyer

Hope you all have a wonderful day and take this scripture to heart just as much as I did and to not be afraid of being your own unique, beautiful self God made you to be.

Until next time,
Kristen

Blog friends, I need your help!

Hello friends! Hope you are all having a great day! I'm sitting at Starbucks, catching up on blogs and cleaning up mine a bit, something I haven't done in awhile. So, I have a question for all you bloggers out there. I want to change the name of my blog to something that is more fitting. I came up with "Few of my favorite things" because I just couldn't think of anything else, but now, I have a few fun ideas. My question is, before I start changing everything around, will I lose content if I just go into blogger and change my URL? This may be a silly question, and something so simple, but I just don't want to lose anything. Let me know if you have any suggestions!
